Since 2019, ESWA solicits entries each fall for its annual contest for photos that best evoke the splendor of the Wilderness Areas that ESWA helps protect –Eagles Nest, Holy Cross, Flat Tops and Ptarmigan.   In remembrance of John Fielder's many contributions to preserving Wilderness the annual photo contest has now been renamed as :

John Fielder Wilderness Photo Contest

Photos should be submitted to photocontest@eaglesummitwilderness.org

  •   Photos must be submitted by Sept 12, 2023

Winners are announced and prizes presented at our Annual Celebration.

We strive to engage ESWA volunteers and members in a fun activity to promote the preservation and protection of the Eagles Nest, Ptarmigan Peak, Holy Cross, and Flat Tops Wilderness Areas. You are encouraged to submit your own favorite photographs.

A Selection Committee chosen by the Membership Committee and ESWA Chair reviews all entries. ESWA uses the winning photo to create notecards to sell for fundraising purposes, as well as for gifts and marketing. The proceeds will help support ESWA, a non-profit, all-volunteer organization. See below for Guidelines and FAQs.

  • Photos may not include people or dogs (landscape, wildlife & flora/fauna only).

  • One box of notecards at no charge featuring the winning photos.

  • Your name will be included on the back of each notecard that has your photograph printed on it.

  • Each of the winners will also receive a free ESWA hat (baseball or knit).

How will the notecards be promoted?

  • ESWA will promote the notecards on our website and social media.

  • During fundraising drives, the notecard sets will be provided as an incentive to donors at the $250 level and above.

Will the notecards promote more traffic into the Wilderness?

  • The Board believes this project will neither increase Wilderness traffic by members of the public, nor will it cause harm to the areas represented in any of the photos published. The locations of the photos used will not be listed on the notecards, except for the Wilderness Area in which the photo was taken.
