About Us

Eagle Summit Wilderness Alliance (ESWA) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation formed in 1994. Members assist two US Forest Service Ranger Districts in maintaining three federally-designated Wilderness Areas (Eagles Nest, Ptarmigan Peak, and Holy Cross), which comprise about a quarter-million acres of Rocky Mountain majesty.
For more than 25 years, we've been the only local, on-the-ground organization helping the US Forest Service preserve and protect our three Wilderness Areas. This past year, ESWA:
-
spoke with nearly 12,000 Wilderness users
-
conducted 400 patrols on 25 trails
-
cleared 800 trees from 14 trails
-
hosted 32 shifts at 9 trailheads
-
guided 3 volunteer llama trips for Wilderness restoration
-
covered 2,700 miles on patrols
-
advocated for issues affecting these Wilderness Areas
-
dedicated 8,000 volunteer hours
