Just In! The Colorado MLRB (Mined Land Reclamation Board) hearing scheduled for January 15 has been postponed indefinitely.

Peak Ranch Resources' hearing for its application to DRMS (Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety) to mine gravel in the Lower Blue River Valley has been postponed to an unspecified future month. Thanks to your many letters to the state protesting the inadequacy and inappropriateness of Peak's plan to mine gravel in our valley, their 600-page attempt to justify its shortcomings is too voluminous to be considered during the usual 120-day window. Stay tuned for our updates on the new hearing date. If you applied with the state to participate in the hearing, you will also receive a notice from DRMS directly. See documents HERE.

In the meantime, LBRU is actively working with our experts, attorneys, and consultants to review new information that we may provide to the Division, if necessary, as it continues its evaluation of the Peak proposal.

Also Just In! Summit County's Lower Blue Planning Commission has 3 seat openings. This is your opportunity to protect our valley from inappropriate development. Deadline to apply is January 29.

The Summit County Planning Department is inviting community-minded citizens to apply for seats on the Lower Blue Planning Commission. Our planning commission is one of five in the county and they play an integral role in the land-use planning and development review process in the unincorporated areas of Summit County.

When, and if, Peak Ranch Resource's application for a conditional use permit reaches Summit County, you and your cohorts will be the first to hear their case and to decide if a mine in the Lower Blue River Valley is appropriate. See Eagle County case below.

Applicants must be residents of Summit County for at least one year and reside in the basin in which they apply. Our basin is the portion of the county from Silverthorne north to Grand County. Minimum commitments include one meeting per month and periodic site visits; monthly meetings are occasionally canceled when there is no business before the board or commission.

Visit the county's site HERE to complete an online application.

This is what you are protecting! I made this image of our valley and the Gore Range at sunset on December 26.

More good news! Eagle County Planning Commission denies gravel pit in 4-2 vote

After hearing hours of testimony from the local community, on Wednesday, January 6, the Eagle County Planning Commission voted in favor of denying applications for a gravel mine near the Colorado River in Eagle County near Dotsero. Read the story HERE.

This is the kind of action you can take as a new member of our Lower Blue Planning Commission to protect our river! Here is a photo I made in June, 2020 of the stretch of the Colorado River a few miles above the proposed gravel mine.

Below is another image I made in December of our threatened Lower Blue River...thank you for your support! Visit our website HERE.
